About Me

making

I am Anthony Chilver and I have been working with glass for over 20 years. After completing my Art & Design Foundation course in Scarborough I studied Stained Glass Design at Chelsea School of Art in the 1980's on the Mural Design/ Public Art course. This course now long gone unfortunately, was a hot bed for people like myself who had one foot in the Craft based world and the other in the Fine Art world. I was allowed the expresive freedom I needed at the time to experiment with glass and at the same time develop my skills.

After that I worked with various stained glass studios in London. I was lucky enough at that time to also be able to work with many prominent artists like Brian Clarke, Graham Jones, Patrick Reytiens and Sandra Blow.

I ran several large scale projects up and down the country installing work for these artists. Poets Corner, Westminster Abbey, London. Victoria Quarter, Leeds. The Spindals, Oldham . Stanstead Airport, Heathrow to name but a few.

Glass is a fantastic and exciting medium to work with. The play of light through a stained glass panel seen for the first time or the play of light on a glass sculpture makes all the hard work worth it. Even after 20 years of working in glass I still get the same thrill that I used to way back in those early days.
